Does oily food make acne worse or is it a myth?

Fatty acids come from the break down of fat that is either stored in our body or from food that we eat as part of our diet.

Sebaceous glands, secrete an oily substance (sebum) which gives the skin an oily appearance. Eating fatty food, increases the amount of free fatty acid circulating in the blood. High levels of fatty acids, have been thought too increase secretion of sebum, making the skin oily.

Some studies have shown , that a healthy diet consisting of fresh fruit, vegetables and lean meat can be very helpful in decreasing oily skin and as a result, decreases the breakouts of acne!

Although this topic still remains contraversial, it would be in any person’s best interest to decrease the levels of saturated fat in the body; this decreases the risk of heart attack, stroke as well as decreasing the risk of acne breakouts.

    I completely agree with this post. Since I began eating fresh salad and fruit and cutting down on oily food, I have seen such a big improvement with regard to to acne breakouts and blemishes. My skin feel so much softer and less oily and secondly, I ahve less acne breakouts. Thanks guys! I love the information!

    I think oily food doesn’t really make a difference at all to acne formation and breakouts!… seriously… but maybe it depends on the person too? Anyone know?

    Same here, I’m usually shocked to read people saying that oily food and chocolate causing acne is a myth, cause in my cause it’s not! I get a pimple the very next day after eating even a small piece of chocolate, the more chocolate i eat the more pimples i get, and i’m sure it’s the chocolate cause i’ve experimented to make sure. Same with oily foods.

    It may be considered a myth because i guess not everybody has the same reaction. I have very very oily skin to begin with, maybe that makes me more prone to acne because of the oily food and chocolates.

    So it’s more likely has to do with skin type or something like that, which means it’s possible to ID the exact cause, but i doubt much research will ever be done cause a lot of people would lose a lot of money if a cure was found…

High levels of fatty acids, have been thought too increase secretion of sebum, making the skin oily.” is incorrect. Oil secretion of the sebaceous gland works in a negative feedback loop. I do not know if you made that on the top of your head cus it made sense to you or you just feel like lying to the crowd but sebum secretion is directly related to hormonal activity, esp. androgen hormones. Amount of sebum secreted works on a negative feedback with how dry your skin is and also how big your sebaceous glands (determined genetically or due to androgen activity). It has nothign to with fatty acid hocus pocus. ALL A MYTH…~MYTH BUSTED~

    btw…only correlation between fat foods & chocolate have anything to do with acne is, the hormones in bovine milk (skim milk) and also in fat foods, some times manufacturers inject hormones into their meat to make their livestock grow more, which may answer your acne after fat foods. DO NOT BLAME THE COWS…it isn’t their fault, blame men.

    this is a really hard question to answer, because everyone is either saying that it does or that it doeasn’t. i did some research on the internet, i got very confused because there were lots of people saying that diet does have an affect on your acne, and a whole bunch of other people saying that it does not have anything to do with acne. i happen to have a moderate case of acne and when i eat things like pizza, i tend to get a new pimple everyonce and a while. my advice is to just stay low on foods you know have lots of oil and stuff in them, just in case.

    i have put myself through experiments to see if fatty food, chocolets do increase acne and it does lead to more acne breakout than regular. but i guess it varies from person to person. i have questioned my dermatologist on this topic so many times and they all had a simple answer that experiments dont show acne related to food. well now i am working on avoding fatty, too salty, sugary food, its hard and i see less improvement but i am very optimistic that its working. thank u guys, happy to see some people share the theory i believe in.

    This one is an good Question and I have a complex answer, Depending on ones immune system our body would carry a frequency level(band), one’s immune system is V. Strong he can digest anything and would have less food allergies, one who has got low immune system he is allergic to more foods, as all the food we eat would carry a different frequency and we react to it, food which tastes good to me may not be liked by other person, not only food which causes acne even bad thoughts play a vital role, bad thoughts get hung in our brain causing stress this would create chemical reaction in our body and end result Acne breakout and for others it would result in piles, hangover, acidity…etc, People with acne problem stop watching porn movies and stop masturbating, Sperm is an Energy Do not waste it in your toilets, Sex/masturbating once or twice a month is fine, Not sure of cosmic energy let me explain, Every night when we sleep our body gets energized as we take some cosmic energy while we are in deep sleep(deep sleep state would be around 15-30min) when our mind is totally subconscious and this is not sufficient for the people who are prone to acne, I would suggest people to start practicing meditation, Meditation is done in awake state and cosmic energy would enter our body Consciously and this has got nothing to do with your religion, Meditation can be practiced by anyone, anytime and anywhere, It is all about bringing all your 5 senses under control and diverting your mind to explore inner self and awakening consciousness.

    On foods I suggest always take a PH balanced food, more you take acidic food (Food which produces more acidic waste)will increase the blood acidic level and the end result Acne breakout, All doctors would hide this secret cause they would go out of business and there is no medicine to cure acne it just how you body is built and how we maintain our PH balance. Do you know that it takes 30 glass of pure water to neutralize one glass of coke you take, if you don’t neutralize it then be ready to see Acne breakouts the next day.

    It took me 28 years to find the truth, please don’t learn things the hard way.
